This is a broad generalization -- but beauty is normally the opposite of the norm.
Today we are well fed, fat and happy -- so the 'style' is for slender women.
In the past, most people were skinny and hungry so the rounder broader woman was what drew the eye.
Hair is considered the ultimate fashion accessory -- even in the Old Testament is says that a woman's hair is her glory.

A surprising number of cultures throughout history have made a big deal over big women. I take considerable comfort in that fact, although it's not doing me much good here in 21st Century California.

In ChangMai Thailand, long necked women are considered beautiful. The long neck is developed by putting coils around the neck. Over time more coils are added, the shoulders are forced lower and the result appears to be a stretched neck.

Ruebenesque women found in paintings and sculpture. Fair skin and being big (what we classify as big nowadays, probably about size 14/16) were considered lady like and healthy for making babies.
