It is bogus. Yahoo and microsoft do not sponser any kind of lottery. It is a big SCAM.

Yes it is most definitely a scam, seeing as you don't seem to have registered and recently entered a draw on the National Lottery website. However as far as I'm aware the UK National Lottery will only send you a results email, and it's up to you to realise you've won and when you login, the winnings will be in your balance. You don't have to take any action to claim the winnings usually, which these scam emails try to make you do! They say something like contact such and such who is the beneficiary etc blah blah and they will pay you. Don't do it. I noticed above someone has said that it's illegal to play the lottery in two different countries. This is not strictly true. I live in the UK (Northern Ireland) but I am free to take part in both the Republic of Ireland National Lotto and the UK National Lottery. I believe its different elsewhere for example in the US, you have to be resident in the appropriate state to take part in that states Lottery.

When come to giving your personal info, better don't trust. To detect really wether this is from Yahoo or not, Yahoo always have a Y! icon. So far, I don't think Yahoo have this lottery...

First of all, verify with Yahoo (not through the e-mail) wether this is true or not. Yahoo help will help you.

Second of all, don't reply until you really get a veryfication from Yahoo itself. Spammers are cunning these days.

Usually, if Yahoo have this event, they will advertise. Even so, Yahoo will not simply use your e-mail address (without your permission) to do all things. They will ask you join instead.

I felt this is a spam. You should be caution.

Of course not. We're talking MONEY here. No one wil ever, EVER, notify you only by email. It's called a SCAM. They will ask you for contact information, and eventually ask for your bank acocunt number so they can "Deposit" the funds. This is when they bleed you dry. Happens all the time. Or... they'll ask you to pay some transfer fees up front. This is another place they fleece you.

If it's money, they'll call you and show up to your house. Or send a check.

You should expect that lotteries are ALLWAYS a scam online.

Yeah...

The lottery is held just after the yearly auction of the Brooklyn bridge and swampland in Florida.

What you'll find out is that either you are required to send them several thousand dollars up front to claim your reward or they will ask for your bank account so they can "deposit" the money in your account.

Either way, you're out your money because there is no such thing and most of these scammers are (no racism intended) Nigerians.

Did you enter any kind of Yahoo lottery? If you didn't sign up, you didn't legitimately win. Sorry - sounds like a scam to me. I wouldn't give them any personal information.

I agree - somebody's trying to steal your money. It's called phishing - they make a website which looks exactly as an official site and invite you provide them with some of your 'sensitive' data (account number or log-in name). So don't believe thieves no matter how 'sweet' their offer may seem (300000$ in your case is quite a 'sweet' bite).
