It can certainly be done but you need to understand the circuit you are dealing with.

Consider:

A photocell when activated is providing a small voltage to show its "on" state.

A timer when activated is providing a path of zero ohms as opposed to an open circuit.

You will need to adapt the timer to provide a voltage the the point the photocell was connected to, or.... use the timer's zero ohm to activate a different point in the circuit (if one exists).

Suggestion: Determine the output of the photocell in the on state. Build a circuit with a general purpose diode (or zener) with some limit resistor in series with it. use the diode as the point to connect to the circuit to turn it on.

Very easy to do with X10 products. I don't know how they came up with a name like X10, but this company sells a whole line of contollers that can be used to turn on lights and small appliances. They are controlled by a programmable device that sends a signal trhough your house wiring.

Easy to do but you'll have to re-wire the light or whatever you're controlling to eliminate phorocell from circuit.

easy just wrap the photo cell with black tape then hook the light to your timer.
