According to bobvila.com, there is a product called Shure Klean Limestone Restore by ProSoCo, (800) 255-4255. You should be able to get it at J.C. Cornillie, (586) 293-1500.
Lycos IQ says, To clean the slate or limestone hearth in front of the range, get a flannel and a pail of hot water; put in it some soda, and wash the hearth all over. The person who tried it notes it cleans it up, but won't remove tough stains.
