Floppy drives are becoming less popular while not only CD writers, but DVD writers. DVD writers are set to become even cheaper and more popular with the launch of HD DVD and BluRay disk formats.
A Floppy disk drive would not have determined the price of your computer, since they are in such low demand now.
It is possible that the computer does not have a floppy drive due to the development of DVD etc.
However, a lot of stock computers that are available in the market now have covers that conceal any unsightly buttons and plugs, leaving the CD/DVD drive exposed for efficiency. The covers sometimes can be hard to open so you might not have noticed it this is quite likely since its a modern computer.
Of course the best way to tell is to check the manual if it came with one (it should), or you can call HP or the dealer, tell them your computer model number/name and ask them if it has a floppy drive and its locations if it does.
Hope this helps a bit :)

A lot of the new computers today don't. Which I think is a horrible idea as you may need this at some point to boot from disc. However, if you go to your local computer store you can pick on up for pretty cheap. Last time I bought one I believe I spent about $12.
While it is likely an easier fix to get a thumb drive you may have old hardware that only came with a floppy. If this is the case I would check out the manufacturer's site to see if they offer what ever it is you need. I'm not sure what you're trying to do exactly.
If it comes down to it buy a cheapy floppy and sell it on ebay when you're done. Floppies are being phased out, but every once and a while they are still nice to have.

Don't get mad at them when they are simply just the messengers. The floppy drive is not as ubiquitos as it once was. You can still buy one and install it if you really need it.

No..
and its not because it was cheap.
Computers nowadays are NOT coming with floppy drives because they are becoming obsolite..
....just like zip drives and ditto drives :)
...your best bet is to buy flash drives... .they are extremely cheap.. i picked up a 1GB sandisk at circuit city for 15$ the other day.
