The movie is To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar (1995). For those who have not seen it, let me tell you the ending scene. Three drag queens travel cross-country until their car breaks down, leaving them stranded in a small town. In the end a police officer comes to this small town and try to arrest the ladies shouting all around there are gays in town! Then all the locals come out and saying, "arrest me, officer, I am gay".
What do you think about it? Is being gay just physical or could be also not a mental attitude ( of tolerance for example)?
p.s.
I am some kind of criminal here, as my questions are usually reported and deleted, so I have to hide my real intentions, but you can guess! can you?

I think the tolerance that the gay community traditionally has for moinorities (etc), is becoming a state of mind. Being tolerant, open-minded, and unafraid to question societies' norms in attitude, dress and lifestyle is no longer the exclusive province of the gay community. Therefore, the (non-sexual/physical) attributes of' gayness' COULD be seen as having passed into the mainstream, with benefits to BOTH communities; and in this scenario is more of a state of mind.

And incidentally, i loved the film, so did my wife.

Actually, the townspeople's defense of the drag queens resulted from the positive changes the "ladies" had made in the town. It wasn't simply a "gay themed" movie, the movie was about intolerance and the overcoming of intolerance/learning to cope with reality as it is, not as you want it to be.

Your question..."Is being gay just physical or could be also not a mental attitude ( of tolerance for example)" misses the entire point of the movie.

I havent seen the movie but I know of it!! It goes to show you the town new that outer appearance wasnt most important and doesnt make a person what they are..I am sure you know that more people need to also.. I am straight but have gay friends one is a man and he is my best friend,, We go together to a bar here where I live that have live drag shows I love them ...WE HAVE SUCH A GOOD TIME AND THEY ARE SOME OF THE NICEST PEOPLE I HAVE MET IN MY LIFE AND i AM PROUD TO SAY THEY ARE MY FRIENDS!!! Of course some arent so nice either...there are some people that are gay that are so much more pregidous than straight ones I know I didnt spell that right..Blacks are the same way..I get so tired of the world , after all these years being this way I am sometimes ashamed to say I live here!!

So let me understand this, you think because some townspeople stand up for some gays (drag queens actually) whom they like, that being gay is just a simple flick of a switch choice.

Ok, Randy got upset by what I have said (I have removed to offensive statement), but Randy, your question is coming across as if you are saying being gay or supporting is wrong somehow. Perhaps you need to re-think the way you ask things. I'm also a big enough man to admit when I'm wrong and for being personal I am sorry. (I've no doubt that you might have responded the same as I thought you were a Bible Basher thus the initial response).

I thought Wong Foo was unwatchable. It seemed to be a poor American rip-off of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Asfor question of being gay being physical and/or mental, clearly some people seem gay by genetic disposition, but others do choose to be gay or are led that way by others.

Frankly, all sexuality should be kept in the closet, not just homosexuality!

The police officer was against gays when he met them earlier in the film he was thinking they were women and he was trying to score on them using his authority so when he tracked them down he was basically after them because he was homophobic so basically the whole town just came out saying hey I'm gay the numbers overwhelmed him and he kinda realised he was being stupid.

Dude, I saw that on tv recently, and I think the townspeople said they were drag queens, not gay. That's different, since I'm pretty sure there are straight crossdressers.

bad movie, its a watered down americanized rip-off of the australian film priscilla queen of the dessert, which is about 3 drag queens on a road trip across the outback to perform a show, and their zany antics and realizations along the way....am i ignoring your real question? oops!

I actually liked that movie. Wesley Snipes and John Leguzamo (sp?) were in it as well.
