Cordless mouse communicates with a base station plugged into a USB port. The main problem is they lose battery power and need new batteries and that's annoying. Also they are touchy about their range of use sometimes.

It's both. I used to have a Euroo Wireless mouse that I bought for 800 Pesos. It worked for a month, then the LED started messing up, the battery contacts corroded, until it died. Pretty disappointed but thought 'twas my fault because I used carbon batteries instead of alkaline, which is more immune to leaking (I think), I bought myself a TechnoGeek Gaming Wireless Mouse. It works pretty well, still have not changed batteries for 2 months (it gets 3.0 volts 8 milliamps per hour, which is a very small amount of current drain.) They are good for multimedia PCs connected to an HDTV, they are really helpful to me because I am the audio-visual operator in our house if there are parties, and I need to access some media, without being stuck near the unit with a wired mouse that cannot go more than a few feet.

advantage, wit a cordless mouse the cord is not getting in the way and you are not limited by the cord. so you can move a little more freely, not across the room or anything.
disadvantage, if batteries run out it will not work properly, and the cost of replacing batteries.
That is all i got.

With a cordless mouse and a cordless keyboard you can sit back in your lazyboy like with a laptop instead of those uncomfortable chairs 18 inches from the screen. They are slower, though.

DO NOT USE A CORDLESS.. it is heavy, uses a battery, and is slow in responding sometimes.. they also break easier and are more expensive.. get a 30-40$ cord mouse and you will not need another one for 5 years.. and it will be much much more comfortable

Well naturally you don't have to worry about a cord, so that's nice. Aside from that there are several things to be concerned with.
1. They use batteries. Some will go through batteries fast so get rechargables.
2. Other things can interfer with the signal. Make sure the reciever isn't too close to you rmonitor or speakers.
3. They can be lost. Don't get it if you have kids. Kids lose everything.
4. Don't get a cheap no-name brand. That's just asking for trouble. I recommend Logitech as a good brand.
I have no kids and I use rechargable batteries so I'm happy with my wireless mouse. Plus I have birds that eat wires so it's one less thing for them to chew on.

I have had two cordless mice and they were very nice for about 2 or 3 months and then both began acting very erratically so I won,t have another one. I have a nice optical mouse now it works great and no cleaning required.

I found a cordless mouse unreliable and got fed up with it. Now I use an infrared mouse WITH a cord!

a cordless mouse is basically a mouse that connects electronically to your computer. we have one and it's a piece of crap, i hate it. i see no advantages at all and use the fingerpad in the center of the keyboard as the mouse on my computer.
