My blood type a A rhesus negative and i had to have an injection after my son was born not before. don't know if it the same as why you have to but mine was incase i got pregnant again and the baby can poison my blood or vice versa if they are different types, don't worry you will have that much other stuff going on you will hardly think about it, good luck!

If you are rheasus negative you need an injection to stop your body rejecting the baby if it has a positive blood group (from your partner). If you deliver a positive baby without the injection, a future pregnancy could miscarry as you would build up antibodies against a positive baby.

Hope this makes sense!

It's called RhoGam.
It's to prevent the baby who's father is probably O postive from having a transfusion reaction from the difference in the Rh factor.
You can also suffer from the difference, it's like an autoimmune disaster if the baby you carry is O pos, and you don't get the Rhogam injection... it can also hurt the future babies if you don't get the injection.
Congrats on the baby.

I had to have an 'anti-d' injection with both my kids as I'm one blood type and my hubby is another. It's to make sure that your blood doesn't attack your baby's blood. It's perfectly harmless to you (but will make you jump a bit!) and will ensure that your baby is born safely. Conratulations and good luck!

Congratulations, I am A (d) rhesus neg and I was given anti- D injection. This was for future pregnancies, your first child is compatible with with you but other babies may not be.
Nothing to worry about. Good luck.

The injection is call RhoGam. It is given prior to birth when the mother and baby have different rh factors. It keeps the mother from building antibodies that will attack any future fetus.

earlier answers were correct, just want to make sure you understand:

this baby is at NO risk, because s/he may have a different blood type than you have.

The shot is to prevent your body from making antibodies against the rh factor that would affect Future pregnancies.

very good luck to you and your child

YOU NEED TO ASK THE MIDWIFE THAT TOLD YOU THAT YOU WOULD NEED THIS PARTICULAR SHOT! I MEAN REALLY IF YOU'RE THAT WORRIED ABOUT IT CALL YOUR OB GYN AND FIND OUT WHY YOU NEED IT. GOOD LUCK I HOPE EVERYTHING GOES WELL THROUGHOUT YOUR PREGNANCY
