I think this issue is still in a grey area... some people say that it is as normal as file sharing, but I think that if you download to reproduce many cd's for commercial purposes, then it is illegal. Before, pirates had to buy the one cd to reproduce it, now they can download the tunes, paying or not for them. Anyway, who put them out there in the cyberspace to be copied? It doesn't benefit the pirates neither because I would prefer to download it for free myself than buying the pirates' stuff. The one who puts out there the file to share may be at fault, but then, is it illegal to buy a cd and then share the music for free with the world?

Downloading music through iTunes or other music buying service should be legal. My thoughts are that if you share 1 or 2 copies of you music to your close friends that is ok. But if you actively allow the entire internet audience download your music, that should be illegal.

It's only illegal when downloading music without paying for the songs.

If you buy or win the music you are downloading, it's legal. Otherwise it is not legal.

No, I don't think it should be illegal at all. We used to record off the radio onto cassette tapes to listen to music, so this should be no different.....I think anyway.

Well of course not... There are so many sites that let u download and listen to music... Most of them(not all though) have complete rights to host the downloads...

making music downloads illegal would be like trying to make alcohol illegal. nobody would pay attention to the law, and music downloads would continue on illegal software formats.

Sometimes it is illegal, sometimes not. It should be illegal only if it infringes on the creative property of others.
