I was born in '65 which (I think) puts me at the tail end of the "x generation" and I do listen "X rock", but I am also close to the baby boomers age and like to listen to "classic rock" as well. Occasionally you might hear "heavy metal" from the eighties on my car radio.
I don't really prefer one over the other because each genre has nice attributes that make it cool to listen to. Don't you think so? When I write music, I never know for sure how to categorize it because of the many influences I have had from enjoying so many different types.

I listen to prteey much every type of rock, except for the type where Coldplay and Snow Patrol would be listed, which would be Soft Rock

I mostly prefer classic rock (LED Zepp, AC/DC, Black Sabbath), but I also like "90s rock (Nirvana, STP, Pearl Jam, RATM, AIC), but for newer, I'd say Audioslave, Velvet Revolver, White Stripes, Jet, Shinedown!
