"Why do smokers think it is ok to throw cigarette butts out of their cars?"
It's not that it's okay, I think it has to do with more than one reason. I will entertain you with a few:
The Top Ten Reasons Why A Cigarette Smoker Might Flick a Cigarette from a moving Vehicle:
1) Whoa! That thing almost burned my finger. I'll have to throw it out sooner next time.
2) I hope this doesn't start a fire, I have to come back through here in 45 minutes and I wouldn't want to cause a traffic jam.
3) The world is my ashtray.
4) Oh, that thing stinks!
5) (At night), Fire photon torpedo!
6) If I put that out in the ashtray, this whole car will stink.
7) Beats dumping the whole ashtray all at once!
8) I don't want to suffer from secondhand butt smell.
9) Says, "I've come to set the captives free!"
10) Just giving back to the community.

True story......My friends Amber and Shelly both smoke and one night they were headed to work together (we all work together on the weekends) and had had to borrow someones truck. well, they were smoking and flipping their butts out the window when one landed in the back of the truck. There was a full gas can and a butane torch in the back that caught fire. They pulled over and jumped out just in time because the truck exploded not 10 seconds later. There was nothing left of the truck. They don't toss their butts out the window anymore.
I've also seen numerous grass fires started by tossed cig butts.
They are nothing but selfish children who don't care about anybody or anything but themselves......and by smoking they aren't really caring about themselves either.

Oh - I KNOW!! I pulled up to the drive-thru ATM at the bank last week and the JERK in front of me had thrown his cigarette out - I choked on his damn still-smoking cigarette and my son (who is asthmatic) had an asthma attack from it!!
Smokers have no regard for other people. They are so RUDE!

Because car makers, in all their wisdom, decided it was ok to make the cupholder block the ashtray.
