Ok, the abbreviations by each element in a chemical equations ... are those it's states?

Just some random thing I'm going to make up

OH(g) ... does this mean the state it is in is gas?

Yes. It's g for gas, l for liquid, s for solid, and aq for aqueous solution.

small s in parentheses stands for solid. (s) , small l for liquid (l), small g for gas (g) and aq for aqueous or in solutaion (aq) . These are done as a subscript, difficult to show on a keyboard.

H2 (g) H2O (l) Au (s) NaCl (aq)

s = solid
aq = aqueous solution
l = liquid - normally reserved for water
