Hi, My sisters and I are taking our kids trick-or-treating this year and we are all being sesame street characters. There are 4 of us and we are being Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch, and Grover. Any cute ideas on how to make a costume or where to get one?!?! Thanks!!

Felt squares are cheap at craft stores and come in all different colours. Especially for the little kids it will be easy to cut and glue or sew together an outfit to wear above street clothes.
After the outfit is done you can add on things like feathers or junk or cookie crumbs (made of styrofoam).
wear a hoody of apppropriate colour and have the googly eyes sit on the hoody. so there won't be any danger of walking into traffic or vision being affected by masks.

Try Halloween USA or go to Joann Fabrics or Walmart for costume patterns. Also many women's magazines carry ideas for costumes September and October issues.
Otherwise buy yellow, blue, and green sweatshirts and pants and the felt that has sticky backs (at Walmart) and cut out eyes, noses and such to stick to your sweatsuits. you can make the noses by stuffing small balls into the sticky felt and bunching up into the nose shape. You can take a trash can lid for Oscars hat and tie it on.

Just make sure you cover them in blood before they go out trick or treating. A Big Bird back from the dead is a great idea!

Get the oscar head somewhere or make it then find a lightweight trash can and cut holes in it.

try your local joke shop, they usually hire out or sell costumes that are not your traditional styles, or just pop in and ask them what sort of materials you would need. nearly everyone who works in a joke shop is trained in costume design and sewing. so they might even make the costume for u!
