everytime that i drink i get really sharp pains in my stomach right where my ribs end, then i start to get a pain that shoots up one side of my back and through my shoulder....this is a very horible pain..... but if i decide not to hold my liquor, the pain just goes away....what could it be?

If it's pancreatitis from drinking it can be fatal! Better go get checked out right away.
Pancreatitis feels like stomach pain just under your ribs and you feel it in your back as well. CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL CAN CAUSE FATAL PANCREATITIS.

If it's with any beverage or food, and you feel like you are gonna barf, then it's gallstones. If you are talking about alcohol consumption only, then maybe your body is just not meant to have it, so stick with water and milk.

It's gastritis, and you could have an underlying ulcer.... which is made worse by the alcohol consumption.
Go to the doc, get the antibiotics, and prevacid, etc...

It could be your kidneys having a bad reation to the alcohol

DON'T KNOW BUT IF I WERE YOU I'D STAY AWAY FROM ALCOHOL! YOU COULD GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR & EXPLAIN TO HIM WHAT YOUR SYMPTOMS ARE,COULD BE SERIOUS OR COULD BE NOTHING ,BUT YOU'LL NEVER KNOW UNLESS YOU GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR OKAY!
