that's for adding additional cards like, sound cards, sprint mobile card to access internet on the road, even the cards like you mentioned for viewing photos from your cameras memory card. but basicaly its like having those psi slots in a desktop where you can add differrent cards, but in the laptops case, you can only use one card at a time, where a desktop could have from 3 to 5 slots. laptops don't have more than one slot, and thats what the pcmcia slots mean, or sometime they refer it as 5-1 card slot.

CardBus is a version of PC Card (PCMCIA) - an extension card that you can plug into your notebook. Typical notebook computer has 1 or 2 CardBus slots. Extension card can provide you with extra functionality - like WiFi, Firewire, mobile Internet etc.
Older PC Cards are 16-bit, while CardBus are 32-bit. I believe that all modern notebooks are CardBus-enabled.

Card Bus Enabled Laptops means they support PCMCIA(Personal Computer Memory Card International Association) compliant cards. Some paid services come with a smart card which has they key for those services. You can use these smart card sfor authentication so that the services you paid for are not used by anyone else.
You can Use these Card Bus enabled laptops to read those smart cards and use the services you have paid for. They can read any kind of Smart Cards , not just those designed for authentiacation without making any damage to your laptop if it is PCMCIA compliant.

The card bus is the slot in which to place a wifi card into on the side or your computer. Not sure if you already have hard ware installed on your computer for the wifi card or not..,is it a new one and did you get a wifi disk and card?you can also use the card bus slot for an ethernet modem if your modem on your computer is down for broadband and phone line connections.
