Dragon Quest VIII is one of the best RPGs I've played in years. It's very old school (the storyline is a standard RPG plot but it's very well told, and the basic battle system is very mucy like those of other DQ games), so not everyone will like it, but if you're a console RPG fan I cannot recommend it enough to you.

I think it is a great RPG. It is what Dragon Quest/Warrior has been through the series, which is a more old school RPG. I would also recommend Dragon Warrior(U.S. title) 7 on the Playstation if you still have a memory card for it

from previous answer/questions of yours, you do like most rpgs that are considered standard now a days.
i have DQVIII, but i was disappointed with VII, so i have yet to open it. besides, time is a hard thing to come by lately.
but i would gather that you'd like the game a lot.
from what i hear, leveling is kinda hard... but the mechanics of the game, as i understand it, are hardly changed since the times of DragonWarrior III and IV. (IV being the best in the series, probably even against these newer DQ games)
if you have a DS, rocketslime is going to come out soon, and i would recommend giving that a try, i know i'm gonna do so.

It's a pretty good game in the sense that the story is quite solid too. I love Final fantasy and Suikoden. It's worth your money, I played it a while back.
