Coragryph: Israel violates treaties regularly - its a habit. It owes its existence to a UN resolution but is able to ignore them at will (about 71 at the moment):

In this specific case, of course it is possible to argue that anything goes in a war for your own side but the other side must be punished so this and that. The fact is that we all have some concept that deliberately targeting non-combatants such as women, children and old people is wrong, otherwise we cant call ourselves human being.
