flip is an insulting word. i knew what do anglos mean by that:
F - filthy
L - little
I - island
P - people
that may also mean "ghetto" right?
why won't you call us as "pinoys" rather than "flips"?

In Hawaii many filipinos call themselves flips. But in Hawaii they have names for everyone.

I'm not familiar with that term. But it sounds like they're just too lazy to say the entire word and shorten it up.
