There must be some "scientific" reason for this surely,or is it merely to prevent it slipping out,then again if its fully inserted in small babies it must reach the back of the throat.i dont know just very curious

I would hazard a guess that because the rubber teat is made from a material that is stronger, thicker, and more durable than human skin, the teat also has to be somewhat larger in order to retain its pliability. If it were the size of a woman's nipple, it would be a hard little nub, which is less desirable for the application.

When a baby sucks on the nipple it lengthens. The size of a teat on a bottle is very similar to the nipple in this respect.

How do you know. Sorry I am a bit squeamish - probably to feed the little blighter quickly. I though breast saved all that nonsense.

its not...when a baby nurses the entire nipple, aureole included, is in the baby's mouth- or is supposed to be...That's a lot more surface area than any bottle or binki Ive ever seen
