100 meters (outdoor)
9.77p Asafa Powell (Jamaica) Zürich, Switzerland 8/18/06
9.77 Asafa Powell (Jamaica) Athens, Greece 6/14/05
9.77 Justin Gatlin (US) [pending expulsion] Doha, Qatar 5/12/06
9.77 Asafa Powell (Jamaica) Gateshead, England 6/11/06
200 meters (outdoor)
19.32 Michael Johnson (US) Atlanta, Georgia 8/01/96
The average speed for a 200 meter runner is usually higher than for the 100 meter runner's average speed. That's because a much higher proportion of the 100 meter runner's race is spent accelerating. In general, the 100 meter runner reaches a higher top speed.
Recording runner's top speed is not standard, but some speeds have been recorded.
At the 1997 World Championships in Athens, the top speeds of both Maurice Greene and Bailey were recorded at 11.87 m/s
Bailey was also clocked at 11.91 m/s in the 4 x 100 m relay final at the same championship.
According to Jonas R. Mureika's simulations, Michael Johnson hit 11.6 m/s in his 19.32 s world record race.
If you wanted them to compete against one another, you might want to put them in a 150 meter race. I personally would predict the 200 meter runner would win on account of being used to the curve and having better stamina.

100m Sprinters reach faster speeds [Fastest Speed Officiall - 12.20m/s or 27.28mph by Maurice Greene] but 200m Sprinters hold their Speed for much longer
The reason why top sprinters' 200m times may be quicker when divided by 2 than their 100m times, is because in the 100m you have to overcome the Starting phase. In the 200m, you run the 2nd 100m from like a rolling start, so it will be much faster

If there was a world record for 150m Asafa Powell would piss it.
I think Tyson Gay would be the next closest.
But... Note that the fastest 200 m time represents an average speed of 10.35 m/s (or 37.267 km/h), faster than the average speed for the current 100 m world record 9.77.s, average speed 10.24 m/s).

wasn't this already argued after 1996 with Michael Johnson and Donovan Bailey's stupid 150M in Toronto where Johnson pulled something so it was never settled.
It's like asking who is the fastest 100mrunner, the guy who runs the 100m out of blocks or the guy who gets the rolling start in a 4X100m relay race

100 m = Justin Gatlin {9.77 sec} Asafa Powell {9.77 sec}
200 m = Michael Johnson {19.32 sec}
Each of these events are run differently so i think it will difficult to do a test.
They normally say the 100 m Olimpic champ is the fasted man on the planet.

you're way off. you may not in basic terms anticipate human beings can secure an same %. as they bypass up in distance. It in basic terms would not artwork that way. As you run, your muscle mass get drained and they decelerate. you want to envision up on events body structure. you haven't any foundation on your claims. A a million:50 800m is an same as a 40 seven.6 400m in accordance to Purdy, not a fifty 2 as you declare. i might want to anticipate someone who might want to run a fifty 2 sec 400m to be about an same as someone who runs a 2 flat 800m (i'm not saying if you're able to do one, you would possibly want to do the different, in basic terms that those are "equivalent" circumstances, you're in about an same structure and probably might want to be contained in the ballpark). 2 notes: -The exception to the "secure %. as you double distance" is the only hundred to the two hundred, because the only hundred is largely received or lost on the starting up line. you at the on the spot are not likely max speed for the entire race, so it really is achieveable to maintain your accurate %. contained in the longer 200m. -you're really maximum suitable in that maximum runners might want to guage operating a distance up. in case you imagine you're a 400m runner, you would possibly want to probable be a really better 800m runner. this is because intense college childrens are frequently ignorant of their limits and play issues a touch too close to to their palms.
