Placido Domingo. I grew up listening to him and not Pavarotti.

Maybe I like him because he seems much more humble than Luciano.

Luciano Pavarotti

I recently saw a video of Pavarotti singing the Verdi Requiem in the sixties, which is amazing. But what he's doing now is horrible, his voice has become a pure caricature of itself, and the pretentious commercial bullshit he's been doing lately doesn't really help to change that image. So I guess I like Domingo most, although I'm not a big fan either. I hate to see that apparently the definition of a lyrical tenor today is something like "a voice that burns your ears and makes even mozart sound like puccini".

There will never be another placido domingo. He has everything most beautiful rich sound which is so marvelous for a tenor because some tenors sound too high and girly. He has all the gifts piano playing, conducting and being gifted in the looks department. He is very masculine and veril looking. I will be sad when he stops singing.

They both suck. Domingo is OK (he recorded Tristan und Isolde recently - unbelievable for a man his age) but Pavarotti's voice is completely shot. If you want to hear what a real tenor with real passion and tonal beauty sounds like, try listening to recordings by Jussi Bjorling or Fritz Wunderlich.

Pavarotti, purely because I prefer the sound of his voice. It sounds so naturally produced, even at the top of his register.

Domingo is a consumate musician though, and a much better stage performer.

The voices are truly great in there own way. I love to hear them both. I have an admiration for Luciano after watching him live but it is impossible to say which one is best.

Voice wise, they're about the same. Pavarotti has more passion for singing in my opinion. My favorite tenor though is Andrea Bocelli. I love his voice.
