My wife definately thinks so. A lot of people have said it's all about the money, but if the customers (viewers) lose confidence in a program being fair or that it's rigged in some way, then they'll either stop texting these numbers and the revenue will disappear or worse, stop watching and the program will be axed. I would also imagine that these programs must have to be regulated in the same way as potential phone scams are. Having said that, I must admit that 9 times out of 10 you can easily predict what the result will (everyone knew Pete was going to win BB, what a waste of all that time), but maybe everyone just thinks the same as me! Good question btw.

I honestly don't - the public will be "buying" what the networking is "selling". So if they rig a winner that the public isn't fond of, they have potentially lost millions of dollars.

These are business people, so they are trying to get your money. The TV show is just the method in which they get you to part with it.

As with most things, these days, it's all a mechanism for generating as much revenue as possible... "rigged" may not be a term which would stand up in court, but there's definitely a large degree of manipulation going on..

...I stopped watching long ago.

Yes and no, it does seem that those votes that would eliminate a person that the producers "like" (helps ratings) don't seem to accurate but those that reward do seem to add up when you view the results with what's being said on the Internet.

I think they mislead you when they say things like its too close to call etc to get more people voting. They did that on Big Brother a while ago and then theres 25% difference in the vote!

Yes.

There is often too much future income relying on the outcome to leave it to chance.

Just think back to Girls Aloud. There's no way Javine should have been the one to miss out.

good question. i often wonder about that too. how do we know if our votes actually get counted? the producers may already have a winner in mind and the rest is just TV ratings. i guess we'll never know...

if they want to rig the votes don't they give the one they want you to vote for more open lines so if you vote for someone they don't want to win you get the engaged tone all the time
