More information is needed, are you communicating by email or in-person? Relationships develop with time by learning what the person enjoys doing and how they react to situations. If in person, take the fellow places and see how he reacts to situations and life's stresses. Also, the best way to learn about anyone is by looking at those he associates with. If his friends are mean and nasty then it is likely that he is hiding similiar traits, if his friends are nice and sharing then he is likely to share similar niceness.

give ur relationship 1+years and you will see the true colors. the first months are the honeymoon stages. keep your eyes open catch what ever looks funny to you. and from my experiences american boys are sometimes no different from international ones
