I've been a shop manager for years and just realised that I hate all the petty, whinging customers and their arsey attitudes towards shop workers. What career would be best for me ?

Sounds like you are suffering compassion fatigue. It is exhausting to feel one way and have to act in a way that is 180 degrees opposite. Weary to the soul.

Some people are energized by interaction with others. Sounds like you (and I) are not among those. You will have to settle on a career with less public interaction. You can go back to a training school to learn another trade (one that is predominantly solitary), and that will give you time to decompress from the current situation. Trade schools generally have counsellors and will want to do some assessment tests to find out what you are best suited for. Anything from basket weaving to high tech engineering can be considered somewhat solitary work.

Be frugal with your money, next job you have, so you can take off if necessary and not worry about your financial situation.

Put your aquired skills as a shop manager into good use and look at self employment of some kind. The direct marketing industry is crying out for good people. I recomend you read a good book like "The Next Millionaires" by Paul Zane Pilzer, who talks about the vast amount of new wealth that is being created now & awaits you who may hold an entrepreneural spirit like me.

Try to become a trader in a optins or commodities. You can have all the freedom of working and total control of your money and if you can manage money and willing to take risk to earn it. You can make easy Money within a few seconds/minutes.

It seams you are a leader, you cant take orders, it would be better to be self employed, no one can tell what to do , but it is very hard sometimes when business is slow.
