NTFS or New Technology File System is the standard file system of Windows NT and its descendants: Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista.

Microsoft currently provides a tool to convert the HPFS (only on Windows NT 3), the FAT16 and — on Windows 2000 and higher — also the FAT32 formats to NTFS, but not the other way around.

Well, seeing as what NTFS is has been answered (New Technology File System), theres not much to say! i run a WinXP system with my hardrive partioned-the OS files are on a FAT partion and my data files on NTFS-on an NTFS system, you can compress your files, which saves you space and it helps secure them as well if you running on a network or might be prone to hackers...

As for changing your file system, there's no real need to, unless you want something NTFS offers that FAT32 cant... like compression and security. it is relatively easy, just (as with all system altering procedures) make sure you have a back up of you critical info/music/docs, etc...

also, do a bito research if you still uncertain... go to the links posted.

Laterz!!!!!!

"NTFS (NT file system; sometimes New Technology File System) is the file system that the Windows NT operating system uses for storing and retrieving file s on a hard disk .

for more info you can visit:

you will get quite good info there.

There is no easy way to convert NTFS file to FAT32 (other file format)
Probably what you can do is.... send that file using email or burn on cd to a system which is FAT32....... it might convert that file....
But i'm not sure about that.

Better not to go for it if there is no serious purpose.

Rest upon you.

Bye and Best of luck.

Good Day.

You've already got the answer on the NTFS.
Changing files can be done through a various of programs depending on the type of the file. (*.jpg in PhotoShop; *.doc in Word, etc). Changing the system files can be very dangerous, just as doing changes on the Disk partitions, formats and alike.

NT (as in Windows NT)
FS (Filing System)

to convert a drive to NTFS use the Convert Command from a command shell. (type: cmd - then press enter from run)

eg: convert c:/fs:ntfs

And yes - converting file types can cause damage - if you run scandisk (or checkdsk first) and then Defrag (if available) and they complete ok, you should be alright...

To find out more about the convert command go-to help and search for convert and ntfs, or from a command shell type convert /?

New Technology File System. Its' the replacement for FAT32 that was started in Windows 2000. It's supposed to be a more streamlined way to organize information on your hard disk.

NTFS is New Technology File System. You can convert painlessly from FAT32 to NTFS. I prefer NTFS because it is more secure.
