They just eat the same and live as long as normal hamsters.
The only thing with them is that they take longer to tame than syrian hamsters and you are meant to handle them more regularly. Other than that theres not much difference.

I have owned a dwarf hamster before. They don't live as long as normal sized ones. They act and look like normal hamsters...just a lot smaller. They are VERY fragile though so be really really gentle when holding it. My dwarf hamster was the meanest pet I've ever had. She always tried to bite me and I never knew why! I'm not saying ALL dwarf hamsters are that way cause my sister had a dwarf hamster and it was really sweet. Good luck with your new baby!

We bought 2 Robovroski dwarf hamsters 2 months ago. They are cute and quite small. They act like normal hamsters and are easy to look after.
However, these one in particular are nocturnal hamsters, and they don't really like cuddles. They are to be watched but not really touched. They are really fast and I suggest whatever hamster you take, you buy a wheel. They run alot. While you buy your hamster, you can get a little book which will tell you everything about dwarf hamsters...
And to finish, when we got ours, the guy in the pet shop told us to take a plastic box... which we did not do... He said the hamsters would go through the wires of a normal cage, and so far, it has not happened.
Enjoy and make sure if you take two that they are of the same sex if you do not want to have baby hamsters soon!!!

Dont get two. They will fight and end up killing each other. Dont listen to the pet shop saying "it's fine if you buy them together" or "it's ok if they are the same sex" its not true. Apart from that they eat the same stuff as a regular hamster. One quick point though, make sure you either buy a cage with a small gap (a large mouse cage is recommended) or a glass/plastic tank as they will squeeze through the bars on a normal sized hamster cage. If you ask the person who you are buying them from for some more information they should give you some leaflets etc. Hope you enjoy your new pet!

They live for about 1-2 years, they eat the same as larger hamsters, the only thing you may need is a cage with the bars closer together, dwarf hamsters can squeeze through the bars of a regular cage, I've seen in happen! Two dwarf hamsters can live together but if they fight you have to put them in separate cages, because when they fight they fight to the death and they wont stop fighting after the 1st fight. Most will live together quite happily though, they're fairly easy to look after so have fun :-D

Dwarf hamsters should be kept in groups as they are very sociable, unlike Syrian hamsters who fight to the death!!
They need either a glass tank or a very close wire type cage NOT a normal hamster cage they will escape.
They can be friendly but are generally not!! Also have a tendency to jump out of your hand. Great fun to watch though

I used to work in a Pet Shop and it was unusual to send 2 dwarfs out together as they're quite aggressive even with siblings and will sometimes fight to the death. You may want to check this out.
They eat pretty much the same as ordinary hamsters and live for around two years

i used to breed these, i didn't mean to the little blighters just kept reproducing, but they are lovely pets very cute and i just looked after them as i would any other hamster and they did fine. this is not necessarily a fact but i found them less nippy and agressive than normal hamsters, very affectionate and liked being handled. i don't have them any more i've got snakes now but good luck, they're lovely.
