im here referring to the third generation of immigrants in Britain but may be applied to any other country.
where does the gratitude for the country who has supported you come in? i thought people leave one's country coz they prefer the hosting country not other way round.

i expect these immigrants to accept our culture,if people r born and bred in one country it is likely that they embrace its culture.however this seems to b a persisting problem wiv many immigrants who not only reject their hosting country's culture but also demonstrate against it in violent ways as we have seen!.these immigrants seem to instill in their offspring a hate towards the nation hosting them and the need to identify wiv a nation & culture that they might know about but which they had to flee because of dire circumstances.show some appreciation!!!

Delve into your families genealogy and treat it like your own history book. It is a lot of fun. A lot of immigrants leave their native countries looking for something better for their families. The ones who came to the USA got lucky, finding that they could be independant and prosper, but never forgetting where they came from. It is okay to accept and embrace one's heritage and also respect and accept one's new way of life in another country. It is all about acceptance. Find out as much as you can about your ancestors, you will be glad you did when you work on your family tree and find out who/what made you who/what you are today. Let the elders hold on to their past. It is all they have. For you, the lucky, you have nothing but the future to look forward to, and their past to add to your treasure chest of life. The gratitude is obvious. Host country? Don't worry, they will have earned their right to be here, there, and everywhere. There is no shame in respecting the birthplace of your ancestors, just as there is no shame in taking pride in the place you are now.

Well, some people may think it is boring to just be from whatever country they are from. They may think it sounds more exciting or exotic to say their family comes from somewhere like Sweden than to just identify themselves as just a guy from Nebraska in the U.S.

parents and family are the greatest influence on a child's life. so it is no surprise that they feel some attachment to their origins. it is normal.

sometimes people have no choice but to leave their birthplace cos of war or oppression or corruption etc. that doesn't meant that they necessarily leave their traditions behind. these traditions are passed on through the generation. it's to do with nostalgia.
