Yard sales, flea markets, and antique/peddlar malls are great places to buy cheap furniture. For my money, the best place to buy cheap is at estate auctions. It can take a while to find what you want, but the prices will always be the lowest. many auction companies post pictures and descriptions of the contents of upcoming auctions on their websites. This can save you a lot of time actually going to auctions that have stuff you would not consider buying. Watch for auction notices in the classified section of your local newspaper.

Good luck with your furniture purchases.

If you could find something at a thrift store really cheap you could get it reupholstered. Some of that older or used furniture is built really well but I dont know how you'd be able to tell...

Wal-Mart or Sam's Club is a good idea, too. Check around at some furniture stores as you can find some good clearance prices. Something may be imperfect or slightly damaged and they just want to get rid of it. I got a big glass coffee table and two side tables that all have this cool fossil stone around the edges that they wanted $700 for but the coffee table's stone was cracked. You couldnt even tell either so I offered 'em $300 and they said ok. :)
