im doing a research paper in which the internet is really filtering what we read listen and watch. Here is a little sample of the essay im writing i need a psycologist to give me inthought on my question so my thesis can be strong which is "At the same time however the internet has also accustomed internet users alike to purify and refine what they see on the net by picking and choosing what they hunger to read, listen, and watch. From newspaper articles of their revered authors, songs of their most popular singers and artists, and movies of their beloved actors/actresses; these people are not exposed to others types of genres which are necessary because without it they will never know what the other side is offering. What people do not realize is they are narrowing and isolating themselves into a corner to where they will not communicate with others or intake ideas from them as well; alienation." -Talha Amla

I got no quotes but i offer a wee bit insight i have on such a topic. What you are saying is that people are ignorant of the kinds of channeling they recieve from the misguided sources yet they thirst for that which they do not know. I think people are always at a quest to be comfortable, the minute things become off balance the very mind of a human being begins to fall apart. Imagine if you were to tell people that all they have ever known to be tru was a deterent from the actual truth.Hence narrow minded people are somewhat caught up by themselves.A fear somewhat that captures them that which they do not know and are too safe to get out of their comfort zone to be around. U offer an interesting topic which can be discussed for lengthy periods of time. my conclusions says Narrow minded people could not truelly, truelly become fanatics because they lack the neccesary perception. "Those that blow with the wind have no choice but to blow with the wind." May Ping Cos all they have ever known was that wind. Goodluck with ur essay, you can never run out of things to write down.

There is a psychological theory regarding "cognitive dissonance." This refers to the fact that humans feel discomfort when they are forced to entertain two or multiple cognitions (thoughts) that are in conflict with one another. Say, for example, a "revered author" as you mention, writes something with which the person vehemently disagrees. The theory of cd states that the person will have to change something to relieve the discomfort. Either the person will now disclaim the reverence of the author or dismiss this particular article or statement as anomolous.
If, as you state in your thesis, people avoid that information that is available on the Internet that appears to be obviously in conflict with their pre-existing notions, then we would expect the narrowing of "insight" as you say. If, however, they encounter info that creates cd, we cannot predict which direction their attempts at relief might take.
