difficult but not impossible. Ideally you should place and advert in your local paper £250 for a quarter page or so. Then leaflet drop your desired area stating that you are looking for a property in the area to buy and your financal position. Also you should drive round the area and identify property that does not looked lived in, write the address's down and then go on line to landregistry .com and find out who owns them and writea personal letter to each owner. That's How

I have heard that in the USA there are people that wish to sell their property themselves and not have to pay a realtor his commission which adds to the cost of the sale (I think the buyer also has to pay this fee: maybe 6% of the Sales). Check out these online sites: maybe here in the UK they also have similiar companies: FSBO (For Sale By Owner) Private Property For Sale, or check out (owners.com) also do a search for phrases like: homes for sale by owner, private real estate sales, sell your property without an agent, private property sales. Also look around the area and see if there are any Bulletin Boards, or Kiosks, or local papers, or check in with the Council, maybe they have a Housing Listing that posts local sales, if there are any Want ads located in Grocery Stores, or in Public places where people congregate, maybe they have a Want-Ad place on a wall with all sorts of local things to sell. It doesn't hurt to go and look at property that is listed with a Real Estate Agent and if you are lucky enough to meet the owners of the property: try asking them how long their property has been on the Market and if you are lucky, you may find out that it has been on the Market for say 6 months and no sale and that the owners are considering selling it by themselves...so all you need to do is just tell them that you are interested but you do not wish to go through a Realtor but would rather deal with just the owner. This may appeal to the owners as there are many hidden costs using the Real Estate Agents. It's worth it to ask, but please be discreet as this is a bit of a touchy subject. Sometimes the owners are dis-satisfied with their Agents and really do wish to go it alone with their sales, but don't know how to go about doing this. A local Bank or your own Bank may offer a solution for the both of you. Also check with Rental Property Management people as they may know of a Private Sale that is pending ...property soon to be on the Market for Sale Maybe some of these ideas will work for you. Good Luck

catch them before they go on the market!
first pinpoint the area/streets you would like to live in. next compose a friendly letter stating that you (and your family, if appropriate) are wanting to move to the area and would be very interested in buying their house if they are thinking of moving.
this can be very attractive to some people who just don't want to deal with estate agents and viewers trailing through their home.
you could also consider auctions, but recently prices at these have been better for people selling rather than buyers, so make sure you research thoroughly!
hope this helps

If we understood your rationale for this it would be easier to come up with solutions. Anyway, In addition to those mentioned there is looking for "for sale by owner" adverts in local papers, Loot, & Dalton's Weekly
