What is the best way to get a job in Manila? I have a four-year degree and seven years background in sales. How do I even find international companies located here that are willing to sponsor an American? I am getting bored without a job.

Obviously I do not need the money--who would move here without sufficent funds? I have a side business here that makes enough money to support myself but requires little to no day-to-day work. I have looked at volunteer positions with NGO's that I support, however I have yet to get a response to text messages or emails (including major orgs such as Red Cross, GK), so I am looking in a different direction. Employment seemed like the next step.

Yes, I realize unemployement is huge and the employees at McDo have college degrees.

If you are fortunate enough to be able to support yourself without actually working tangibly and would like to stay in the Philippines as a US citizen I assume, I would propose joining volunter organizations such as the Peace Corps. You could also start your own company there that would employ Filipinos. That would be encouraged by the their government and you would get to be your own boss. Since income is not an issue, pay yourself a token salary every year for tax purposes.

As an American trying to support myself here, I can assure you of several things. First, unless you have permanent residency, you cannot legally work here at all! To get caught working is grounds for deportation. Second, if you don't need the money, why take the food out of a poor families cupboard? Third, you can find international companies willing to hire you in the US of A. If you are really lucky and talented, you may be able to find one to send you to the Philippines to work. Fourth, you cannot own a business or real estate. Bored? Don't need the money? Must be rough.

If you do have permanent residency, look into teaching english, Native english speakers make more than most doctors here. Or, better yet, volunteer for one of the many NGO's. Try Habitat for Humanity or Little Children of the Philippines.

Over 30% of the Philippine workforce has no job. A foreigner trying to work here ? Forget about it, evan if you were willing to accept slave wages of $4 for a 10 hour day. Am American wanting to work here? Best have a 3.5 GPA and years of experiance to get hired at a minimum. If it were easy for foreigners to live here in the tropics, allot more would already be here. Wait till your 67 kid and can retire here with ss.

first of all.. why would you even want to work here?

If it's just because of boredom.. then great!! But if you need the money... uh.. America would be a better choice..

Anyway... try international companies or companies that are headed by foreigners..

referrals by friends is the best way.. try

www.palawancenter.com

newly starting in makati.. the president is a foreigner, maybe they need someone... especially in sales.

of course you would need to get a working visa though.. you can find out how on embassy websites ;) good luck

The Monster job website also has an international section, that would be a good start in attempting to find a job in the Phillipines. Other than that, try looking the the employment section of a newspaper of that nation, assuming you can read the language.

Forget the classified section. The best jobs in the Philippines are usually by referral from friends. I know of some teaching jobs at a business school that likes to have a few foreigners on the faculty. I may also be able to help with a couple of multinationals... but you'd have to send me your resume so I can check out which companies I can refer you to... up to you. You can message me if you're interested.
