I just think that when you're a teenager the world revolves around you, your friends and school. Obviously the world and its problems are much bigger than that. Teenagers rarely look at what their parents go through or just don;t care. It's just nature I think. Teenagers should be involved in their world They have the rest of their lives to deal with other things.

Everybody has selfishness wired into their brains; it's a basic instinct that all animals have. Some people are more wired than others. I think teens may be generally more selfish because they're less mature and experienced. The benefits of selflessness are not as immediately apparent as are the benefits of selfishness; it takes a more developed view of life to see. I think that it might have something to do with the biological development of the brain too. Maybe when we become adults our brains change so that we can shift our center of attention from our selves toward our children for whom we must provide and for whom we must sometimes sacrifice our own wants and even needs.

Yes.....Then all of are selfish. Some much more than others. Many that are always giving to the extreme actually are not. To give means just that once it is given then it no longer is yours. So many want something in return for what they give. Quite often it is friendship and praise they seek. Teens are learning and have to try many things to see what works and what doesn't. Yep selfishness is wired in so if it is then it is with us all our lives. If you give or do for another and expect no more than a thanks then it has its price and is not a gift. If you something or time to someone else and do not expect any thanks or anything at all then it is a gift. So you see we all have selfishness in us. Personally I think it is good that we do. If we do not think of ourselves first and do for ourselves first then we are of no real value to any other.

Oh!Yeah? I don't think so. Selfishness by what degree and by what means? They are at a stage when they have to prove themselves in whatever they do. There's a lot of pressure on them to perform, prove and win! Pl don't join the brigade of teenage haters!Analyse them with a different perspective. Be one among them and you will enjoy their company! By the way, i am a mother of a teenager and i am forty+ enjoying not only my daughter's company also of her friends.

They can be. But not all of them are. I have met plenty of teens who are not selfish and care a lot about the world and people around them. I think it depends on how they were raised. A big problem a lot of them have is thinking with their hormones and emotions instead of reason. Another problem is getting many to think outside of their isolated peer groups. If you can get them to see things independently outside their peers influences that's half the battle.
