Boldness is an opposite of shyness. A bold person may be willing to risk shame or rejection in social situations, and willing to bend rules of etiquette or politeness. An excessively bold person could aggressively ask for money, or persistently push a person to fulfill some request, and so on. Excessive boldness may thus be regarded as impertinence or arrogance. Outside a social context, "boldness" can also refer to a willingness to get things done, even despite risks, and is therefore broadly synonymous with bravery.

to be forwards is to be too quick to speak or act, which does not sound like a very positive characteristic. I am the opposite of shy and I would describe that as being comfortable with communicating my ideas and opinions. I used to be shy and am still attracted to shy people as they often have thoughts and ideas that you would not expect from them.this makes it refreshing to eventually gain their trust and get this insight.

I suppose it has a little to do with gaining confidence, which seems to come with age, that allows someone to outgrow their shyness. I am busy watching my son come out of his cocoon, and turn into a beautiful social butterfly.

The definition of 'shy' [in the relevant sense] (from Oxford English Dictionary'):
'Easily frightened away; difficult of approach owing to timidity, caution, or distrust; timidly or cautiously averse to encountering or having to do with some specified person or thing; suspicious, distrustful. Const. of. a. of persons.'

There are a number of possible antonyms, capturing related but slightly different aspects of the meaning of the term, most likely:
'Bold' or 'confident'
