stupid americans. katanga tanga ninyo naman dios ko!! we don't even speak espanyoL?? yeah i admit filipinos or christian filipinos have hispanic surnames and that a number of spanish words were adopted in aLmost aLL the phiLippine Languages. but i guess you americans just don't notice there are numerous chinese and indian (south asian) infLuence in our cuLture. and we're stiLL maLays by identity. i don't think we're even aztecs or incas?? our ancestors are from maLaysia and indonesia. the spanish infLuence isn't that dominant in the phiLippines. i guess musLim and pagan fLips just don't migrate to the U.S. so that's why americans wouLd perceive fiLipinos as Latinos. LOL

The two look nothing alike, Filipinos and Mexicans. I think many (American?) people don't even know who the Malays are, unfortunately. I do coz one of my favorite countries, Singapore, has Malay history and that's probably the only way I'd have known besides trying to learn some of the languages affected a bit by Malay influences. That was something I did as part of a hobby when I was teen. Anyways, you are very right and the problem is just too many people who have no related interests generalize and don't pay attention to details. They rush to put a familiar label on things they don't know about. So while it's wrong, and probably hurts your feelings, the people who do that can be treated with forgiveness...and maybe even taught the difference, if you choose to educate them. I know if someone said something to me that was way off, I'd go ahead and politely correct them. This way, there are no hard feelings. Just tell them next time no matter how unreceptive you think they are. The more people learn, the more open they become....

Some people think my son looks Filipino but he is not. I don't care because he is beautiful so it does not matter what anyone thinks. Yes there is a heavy Spanish influence there but also some Filipino nurses I work with and believe me there are a lot don;t classify themselves as exclusively Malay. Its a matter of personal choice and I think if everyone stops asking about where you are from and starts asking about where you are going it would be much better

Really amazing, in a country where the white population ARE ALL immigrants, that they can be so anal about other races!
