Don't say anything, look at him straight in the eyes, be still, and in that moment think of how good person you are, how intelligent you are, how far upgraded (from him or others, you decide here) you are. If it helps, count to 10-20 simultaneulsly, because of the risk that you'll catch the "virus' of his words. I have practiced this strategy both on people and animals (hungry street dogs) and it works. The eye contact is the hardest but it is the crucial, because you are sending message of superiority. Do this 4-5 times and he will have much more respect for you and your decisions.

I'm sure him talking to you so rudely is a bad habit that he's allowed to get worse. He probably doesn't even realize he's doing it. Bring it to his attention and tell him it hurts your feelings. Stay calm and be mature. Don't throw it at him in an argument, because that could make it worse. Good Luck:o}

Just ignore him for now because you don't want him to hurt or punish you out of anger. When you can move out, respectfully tell him that he has not respected you. You can be the bigger person and do the right thing.

How about the opposite approach? When he is rude, you be exceptionally polite and calm. Don't do it out of fear of course, but just to show him how a civilized person should behave, I think he could figure out that signal for himself. Another way to deal with it is to learn from your mother, to see if she has a good approach to it when your Dad is rude.

Do you respect him as your adult parent and fear him as the jerk that he is?
Is he sexist towards women ? or all people your age?
If you have open communication with him, tell him how much it hurts your feelings when he talks down to you in a disrespectful manner.
It can't hurt to try to get him to see the light!
If he continues you will lose all respect and love for him and become bitter towards him.

When you snap then yes it would be just nice.

Except it wouldn't be nice, hopefully that scenario can be avoided.

Try to tell him in a direct and civilised manner, what you expect of him.

You can attempt to shut him up and then apologise later if you think it would work.

"Shut up" -- them's fighting words!!!

Try talking with your Dad about his objective. If he really wants to communicate with you, then he can try to respect you. If he just wants to verbally abuse you, talk to a counsellor or the police.

you don't have to exactly tell him to shut up, you can just pretend that you're not listening to him when he's being ruuuuuude, or you can just go quitley and tell him that you don't like the way he talks to you!!!!!
good luck
