Consumption of aged garlic is purported to be a natural flea repellant, as the fleas do not like the different taste of blood it creates. But becareful as the un-aged garlic can cause a toxic fatal reaction in some household pets, so caution should be used in choosing the correct product.
Baking soda mixed with equal amounts of salt kills fleas. It is rubbed into a pet's fur, pet's bedding, and the carpet. It can kill adult fleas by irritating their chitinous exoskeletons and causing desiccation. Wash/rinse pet after treatment to avoid a skin problem. Do not dust the carpet on a rainy day, as the salt will absorb moisture from the air, causing the carpet to become wet.
It is easy to get rid of fleas by putting the dog in a bath, and using animal shampoo on it. While scrubbing, take a washcloth and scrub with fingernails. You will see fleas all over the cloth. Then soak it in the water to drown the fleas. Then wash all the blankets and couches that the dogs lay on.
While killing live fleas is a noble proposition, the true threat comes from their scattered eggs that resist even machine washing, Those with an energy intensive kitchen can freeze their sheets and clothing to guarantee that the adults and the eggs perish.

For your pets, use flea dips on each one, then keep them outside of the house for several days, so they are not re-infested while you rid the house of flea's. Putting garlic in thier food, or giving them each garlic tablets on a regular basis will help deter the fleas somewhat, but it won't get rid of fleas you already have all that quickly. Use that as a future means of prevention.
The easiest, non chemical way to rid the house of fleas is to buy a couple of large cannisters of plain old table salt.
Sprinkle it all over the carpet just like you would a carpet air freshner. Get it everywhere, and let it sit over night. The next morning, vaccuum like always, but make certain to clean out the vaccuum cannister or change the bag. Double bag up whatever you remove from the vaccuum, and take it out of the house.
Repeate this 2-3 days later, to get any flea's that might have hatched in the past few days. Again, repeate 2-3 days after that, and you should have gotten rid of them without too much trouble.
This is a chemical free way, which is not only cheaper, but better for the air you plan to breath. Bombing your house leaves chemicals on anything uncovered in your house. Like your food preparing area's!

If you have carpet and vacuum your floors, sofa... everything, MAKE sure you throw out the vacuum bag immediately! even if it is a new bag. The fleas multiply in the bag and infest the house again. The flea eggs are stimulated by the movement of people, animals, vacuum, etc. and will hatch. Vacuum Every other day period. Make sure you treat your animals with a Vet prescribed Flea treatment. Spray your yard for the fleas.
We went through this in our New house. We finally got it under control this way. Hope I have helped.

I've heard that the basil plant apparently works, i have not tried it. Apparently you must just plant a couple in your garden, and put some in the animals food, because it's a herb, it's really good for them, and it helps do something for there blood which then keep fleas away, but i haven't tried, so i don't know if it works.

no... If you use a home remedy to start from, and your pet never gets fleas...it's more likley your backyard doesn't have them, or the fleas just don't like your dog...
