I am almost 39 weeks.. I have been having severe contractions every night for the past 3 nights. Mostly after sex. They are painful and reqular for about 3 hours. Then they fade away and I can finally sleep.
I know I am not in labor and they are just false labor pains but how can I cope with them being so painful.
For those who have given birth already: How do you know they are for real if the fake ones hurt so bad?
I went to labor and delivery saturday evening in false labor I don't want to feel like an idiot and do it again..
Also, I have already tried taking a warm bath/shower, tried back rubs, tried tylenol.. doesn't work..

Make sure you are staying plenty hydrated and when they start try laying on your left side. That always helped me during both of my pregnancies. Please don't ever feel like and idiot for going to get checked, you only have your child's best interest at heart. Trust me when they are the real thing, you will know, there's just something different about the pains. Best wishes and congratulations on your baby-to be!

When you actually get full swing into labor the contractions continue and don't fade away. Also, braxton hick contractions tend to be irregular while actual labor contractions usually have a rhythm. Don't be ashamed to go to the labor ward if you feel something's happening. I did the exact same thing you did and ended up going home. But all things considered, I'm glad I went instead of staying home worrying about what was happening to me, you know. As for the pain, I guess that's the price we pay for gaining something so perfect in return. I personally found that a hot bath helped alot, but I guess each person's different. You could try having a drink of broth blended with calcium tablets which may help ease the pain of contractions much the way calcium helps the pain of menstrual cramps. Congratulations on your soon coming little one. You're going to do great, don't worry. No matter how many times you rush back to that labor ward, when you finally leave the hospital carrying your new baby you'll know that it was worth all that and more. Best of luck.

If you're experiencing severe, painful cramping after sex that lasts for hours and you're already 39 weeks, you might want to forego intercourse until the baby arrives, since it should only be another week or so. It sounds like you're ready to go into labor shortly.

With the Braxton Hicks, false labor shouldn't progress the way real labor does. Are you tracking the contractions to see how long they last and how far apart they are? Are they becoming more frequent and are they regular? There's no need to rush to the hospital if you've only been having contractions for a few hours, even if it's real labor, unless the contractions are only a few minutes apart.

Some women have sex intentionally to have an orgasm to try to bring on labor. Maybe that will work for you!

Good luck with the baby.
