MLA is the standard for writing research papers having to do with any area in the humanites (e.g. History, English, French, the arts, etc.)

APA is the standard set by the American Psychological Association. You would use this style when writing a research paper having to do with the social sciences, such as the areas of Psychology or Sociology.

I've never heard of IEEE standard, I don't think it exists.

MLA= Modern Language Association
APA=American Psychological Association
IEEE= Never heard of it.

MLA and APA are both excellent manuals for writing research papers. APA is more user friendly and is simple to follow. APA also uses internal citation rather than end notes which makes it much easier to use.

I hope this helps.

IEEE??? That is a writing standard? I always thought it was a standard for electronics. The only IEEE I know of is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. So, if you're referring to how they write, it's usually technical about how certain components are supposed to function/operate/work.
