A hoarse cough (especially when I talk), sore chest (probably from coughing), and horrible drainage.

Sound like bronchitis to you, or something else?

Time to go to the doctor?

An expectorating cough (the colour of the mucus does not signify whether the infection is viral or bacterial)
Dyspnea (Shortness of breath)
Fatigue and/or malaise
Mild fever
Mild chest pains
Drinking lots of fluids is beneficial for sufferers of acute bronchitis. Many doctors now recognize that most acute bronchitis is caused by viruses, so antibiotics will not help treat this type of bronchitis.

Some bronchitis is bacterial, but since most bronchitis is viral, most patients will instead receive advice for rest, lots of liquids, and aspirin or Tylenol for fever. Occasionally, a doctor may prescribe a steroid to help open the bronchial tubes to help with coughing.

Coughing is an essential mechanism to help clear the mucus present in the irritated bronchial tubes. Expectorant cough medicine can help make such coughs more productive by thinning the mucus; suppressant cough medicine may help the patient sleep by suppressing the dry coughs so prevalent in the early stages of the illness.

Oxygen therapy, bronchodilator drugs, antibiotics, and lung volume reduction surgery are also used to treat chronic bronchitis.

The most common symptom of bronchitis is a cough. you may have acute bronchitis but it's better to visit a doctor and treat it after a simple physical exam.most acute bronchitis last only for days or a week so if it last more you should go to a doctor. It's a good idea to get plenty of rest, drink lots of noncaffeinated fluids (for example, water and fruit juices) and increase the humidity in your environment.Because acute bronchitis is usually caused by viruses, antibiotics (medicines that kill bacteria) usually do not help. Even if you cough up mucus that is colored or thick, antibiotics probably won’t help you get better any faster. If you smoke, you should cut down on the number of cigarettes you smoke, or stop smoking altogether. This will help your bronchial tree heal faster.

I once suffered from Chronic Bronchitis. I would suffer sometimes 3 to 4 times per year! Usually when there was a major change in the pressure outside (I live in the north, and the temperature spikes and dips do wonders to chronic sufferers of bronchitis!). Each time I would get horrible hacking coughs, hoarking up green phlegm..it was so frustrating!

The key to getting rid of your bronchitis is to find a way to completely eliminate the germs that are causing all the phlegm and irritation leading to your hoarking cough and heavy breathing. Keep reading to learn how to do kill these germs!!

This page it will change your life and make you feel 100% better within just 24 hours!

Bronchitis would normally be a phlemy cough that doesnt produce anything (all the phlem sits in your chest and doesnt move) at least thats my experience but Im unsure what you mean by horrible drainage so you might be describing what I have just said - we are not Drs and cant listen to your chest - see a Dr who can and can diagnose you properly
