I'm interested in getting into folk music as a hobby from an active perspective but I'm not sure where to start. Can anyone recommend anything in London, Home Counties or the South-East?

Barnet folk club is one in North London - http://uk.wrs.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geum_O6QdFVlIBA4VLBQx.;_ylu=X3oDMTB2b2gzdDdtBGNvbG8DZQRsA1dTMQRwb3MDMQRzZWMDc3IEdnRpZAM-/SIG=12i64iq8p/EXP=1158232910/**http%3a//www.communigate.co.uk/london/barnetfolkclub/index.phtml
They meet at the arts depot in Finchley, a really smart refurbished music and theatre venue

Islington folk club is another:

The folk and roots web site is a good resource, and lists lots of places in London and other areas where folk music is going on:

This page is also great for a wider selection of regional clubs including the home counties:

Best thing to do would be to look in your local papers and see if there are any folk clubs in the music section, or even in the entertainment section.

Islington Folk Club atHorseshoe, 24 Clerkenwell Close, EC1R 0AG used to have a good reputation or Croydon Folk Club at Ruskin House may be worth a try.

Other than that just try Yahooing it!
