I can knit and purl fine.

How do you do both on one row though? is it just a case of moving the wool line from back to the front under the right needle when switching from knitting to purling?

I'm using baby wool, any free fairly simple beginners patterns for babies would be great so websites please!
I can only find scarves which I can do or patterns that are too hard, nothing inbetween.

thank you!

I used to do a lot of knitting, and did attempt a couple of baby and children's clothes which took ages. However, I used to knit toys, I think it is Jean Greenhowe (or something like that) who has books with patterns for different toys. They are simple to make and really rewarding. One Christmas when I was strapped for cash I made toys for all the family and they really appreciated it!
You are right on the knit 1 purl 1, you have to keep swapping the wool but keep it tight.

Check the library in the crafts section. I've been knitting a long time and I still come across patterns that somehow don't seem to work. So I go to this small yarn shop and ask for HELP! They are very good and I always end up getting yarn that I don't need.loll.
Anyway, on line go to www.bernat.com, www.coatsandclark.com, lionbrand.com etc...Usually the big manufacturers have free patterns to download. Good luck.

Yes, just move the yarn from back to front by moving in between the needles.

Here is a website to begin: http://knitting.about.com/library/blscarf5.htm

Just type on a search engine something along the lines of "free knit pattern" and you should be able to find some other styles.

You just bring the yarn under the needle and continue knitting. Do not bring yarn over needle as this will create extra stiches.
