Hey, as long as it's between consenting adults, and nobody else is hurt, I think everyone should be free to live and sleep with whoever they want: it's a private matter. Indeed, it's already legal for people to sleep with anyone and everyone they want (as long as everyone involved is a consenting adult, of course).
Marriage confers a number of privileges with regards to inheritance, visiting sick spouses in a hospital, and so forth. I have no problem with people in poly-relationships having legal next-of-kin status with each other. Where's the harm in that?
I have no problem with polygamy in principle. I know people who live in a poly relationship. Their relationship isn't recognized by the government, but they've been together for over a decade and their relationship is as solid and stable as any marriage I've seen. The people in the relationship are healthy and happy. They're doing a fine job raising their kids, and nobody's hurt by what they're doing, so what's the problem?
That doesn't mean it's what I want for myself, though. When I get married, I definitely plan on having just one spouse!
In any case, legalized polygamy ain't gonna happen any time soon - not in Canada, nor in the United States. Both of these nations are overwhelmingly christian, and christians are pretty adamant about marriages being between two people, regardless of biblical precedents to the contrary.

Not for me, thanx. In different parts of Africa, and Asia -- island countries...polygamy is considered part of the culture...Sometimes it is a matter of culture, and the mores of that culture is that it is acceptable as the husband is able to support his wives. Usually western culture doesn't have an appetite (as you can see with the responses) or tolerance for it. I wouldn't want to share my husband, but I know that raising the children is much easier with more than one mother.
However, I think that there are some fearful people that interpret polygamy as being something kinky/dark/perversion. I think that people can be raised in healthy ways. See my first link.

Of course...since they actually recognize a "legal" arrangement (note the difference between religious ceremony and legal), there must be plenty of debaucherie to follow...jeesh...
To answer the polygamy question...no, I would not do it. But that's my cultural upbringing, and I would in no way wish to impose my views on others who have different cultural backgrounds, some of which do accept polygamy.

Yes, definitely. Our current system is broken, and is not working for anybody. Just ask people how difficult and unsatisfying their relationships are. They just stick with it, because they can't think of any good alternatives, or the alternatives are ilegal. I would say women should be able to have multiple husbands also. Actually, I think the state should get out of regulating people's sex lives, and leave them alone. No laws are necessary to regulate sex or drugs for anybody of any age or any gender.
