MisteR is abbreviated as MR. it makes sense because the 1st letter is M and the last is R.

but what about MISSIS? (or missus. whichever you prefer)
how did they end up with MRS? where'd they get the R?

A hundred years ago it was Mistress, though the definition was lost in translation and is commonly referred to as a man's second or secret lover.

i think it just meant that the MRS belong to the MR, only the similarities between the M and R, and S as ownership(after getting married).

before marriage, it's Ms. after marriage Mr + Ms= Mrs. although a Mr should also become Msr or something... but thats the way it is...

I think the spelling is not correct on your version..."mercers", in other words, married. Miss and mistress are single females. Also, Madam would be married.
