You can do it either way. However, I would put the warsdrobes in after the carpet is laid, just incase at a late date you or someone else wants to get rid of the wardrobes or wants to move them. That way when they do, there wont be an area of the room without carpet. And then you would have to reput carpet it, it will save you money and headaches later if you put the carpet in first

If you lay it on carpet, the carpet will become the floor to your wardrobe. However if at a later stage you wish to change your carpet it will not be possible to remove the carpet inside the wardrobe. So you will have mismatched carpet when your robe doors are open.
If you lay it before the carpet is layed onto the original flooring, the robe maker will place a floor in the robe for you, using whatever robe material you agreed on. However visible dust gathers on this option, but I vacuum it out anyway.

the carpet has to be laid before the wardrobes are in as carpet cannot be fitted under the wardrobes after they are installed. otherwise you will either have loose carpet around the edges of the wardrobe or tacks.
