G'day Varun K,

Thanks for your question.

I don't believe in god but I respect others who do.

The claim is that we will spend an eternity sufering if we don't but we won't find out until we die.

Regards

Which one?

If He exists, is He good or bad?

If He is bad, everything you do is useless.
If He is good he can one of two things:
If YOU were good to others and yourself, He can forgive that you did not feel the call of Faith. If he doesn't He would not be so good.
If you were bad, he could forgive you anyway or send you to Hell.

You see, the important issue is not following a particular religion, mostly invented by men, but to live properly, not doing to others what you do not want others doing to you, and helping others if you can.

You can choose the religion that is closer to what you believe is living rightly, but remember that all were invented by men.

If there is a God, He will understand you.

And about the last part, there are so many people running behind God because believing on Him gives you rest, a purpose of life, gives comfort, etc.

But needing Him does not mean that exists

Somebody said "If God would not exist, men would have invented Him"

I would prefer believing, but God probably did not want me to believe, or to understand Him.

Meanwhile, I try not to do evil to anybody.

Nope, there's no reason to.

If you don't you might actually start thinking for yourself.

Believing in god does not make you a better person any more than not believing in god makes you a bad person. That's a lie perpetuated by religious leaders.

It's nice to believe you're going to heaven when you die. All believers manage to fit their own particular criteria of getting there. It's only other people that go hell.

It depends on the individual. People believe in God because they NEED something to believe in, someone to invest all their faith in... It is not necessarily true that God exists just because people want/think that God exists. guess that's why 'so many people go runnin behind GOD.'

Whether or not you believe in G-d is up to you.

Do you think your choice should be based upon "What can happen if we don't???" In other words, the choice is based on primarily fear and punishment rather than what is right and good.

There are other choices besides believing or not believing in G-d. You can be an agnostic - a person who isn't sure whether or not G-d exists.

I think whether or not you believe in G-d, the most important thing is to be a good person. If you can be a good person (moral, ethical) without belief in G-d, good for you and go ahead with your life.

However, I don't think it's right, fair or legitimate to look down upon or belittle people who do believe in G-d. Everyone has the right to live their life according to their beliefs.

I want to begin with the note, that everything I say is my opinion and I don't want to offend anyone, and to "convert" too. Because form many people this is sensitive issue.
The reason for which man created God is because he feels insecure in his knowledge of the world and himself. And with the idea that someone knows better, knows all and does all, we liberate us from our insecurity and give the world a meaning which in other cases, we doubt that can be given.
So if you don't believe, you are more able to doubt in the answers given by the religions, priests, imams and find your own answers, and which is more important, find yourself and the others.

Please ask another question within yourself ,-" Who am I"? if your answer is - " I am none but a perishable body , born out of an accident to live and die like other creatures of the world - then; O.K.; you need not worry for God; provided you are an able person to keep full control over yourself withouit support of any beliefe for a supreme power. However, in my case I belive that I had a companion before my birth and I need Him even before and after my death. Those companions, I have found during my life time,- like my family, freinds and all others,I know well;- they are not going to accompany me , when I will say good-bye to this world. If you like to ignore your past and future, you may go on doing your daily works without remebering your eternal freind like the robber, named ' Ratnakara', who did everytrhing for his family without having least doubt in his mind ;untill he discovered that no member of his family would acompany him on his departure from this world ( pl. refer the story of sage 'Valmiki'). As such, he meditated for several years and brought down his eternal freind , who is a permanent companion for all mankind. Now, I hope that you will make an analysis to find out the necessity of faith on God for human being on the earth.
Howlong ,a babby can smile without love and affection of mother? A babby smiles because of motherly love in the heart of people around. Similarly, it is essential to take shelter on Supreme ( GOD ), during the period between birth and death, if we want to cross the road with eternal peace and happiness receivable from satisfaction. We know or not , there is an unseen thread called divinity, which binds all the beads called life on earth. So, we find unity in diversity.

What happens if we don't? Well, take me for example, I don't. I have a wonderful wife, a wondeful daughter, I have my own business, I come and go as I please and I am very happy in life. I don't need some guy telling me how to live my life (I.e. a priest) when his life can be more screwed up than anyones.

I don't need to believe in a god to make myself feel better, like so many other people in this world seem to have to. They tend, if you ask me, to use religion as a crutch to get them through tough times, or just to have a purpose in life.

It really is a shame that people cannot seem to base their actions upon their own choices instead of "What would god think if I did this?" ... seems to me it's kind of like giving yourself away and taking away from your own identity.

Well, thats my 2 cents, you bible thumpers, don't bother trying to convert me, personally I'm sick and tired of you religious people always telling me I'm going to hell and how much better you are than me because you believe in god... good for you!

Yes!! That is the assumption of an ultimate Power that may be Guiding us, Giving Strenght to us, also Leaving us free to take our own path from the learned experience to over power him etc...Nothing will happen if you do not belive. If the Power is true the way of life is already given to the person.. Nothing shouldl happen if you do not think of God...
