Iwas wondering if it is worth the $250 or so, to have my heating ducts cleaned ?
Many have told me its just a made up trade to scare people into believing the health risks.

It's really not often necessary to clean the ducts, The moving air that travels through them keeps them clean enough. Although their are situations where I recommend it. Because a home was kept unusually dirty and no air filter was ever used on the system, it can have allot of material in the ducts that need to be removed which harbor bugs and bacteria.

It's not a scam it has a lot of health benefits. I had the ducts in my house cleaned last year and the kids no longer get the sniffles when using the system.

If you have flex duct, dont waste your money. If you have metal duct and is over 10 years old. it's not a bad idea. It could be a scam if not preformed properly. Check with the B.B.B. about any company you are considering. It's also not a bad idea to remove one of your registers and check with a flashlight and wipe around the opening with a rag. See how dirty it is. Go from there.

$250 is kinda a high price, but I know they offer different services that's different prices. We have our ducks clean once every year at work (which is very dirty place) and last month they removed 2 pounds of dust out. Take off a cover of the floor duck and stick your hand down there or a mirror.They will show you what they take out.
