emphasize lightning in their logo? I can remember in the 60's when they showed a charging horse on merchandise but I could not figure out why the lightning bolts are on their helmets and pants(in the 80's) rather than a charging horse with a knight on it. It's not a big deal for me, it just popped into my head.

You know I've lived in SD my whole life and I've never figured that one out. You're right, "Charger" is another name for a warhorse, hence the original logo of a charging horse. It might have something to do with the team song which was made around the time of the logo switch. The song refers to the team as the San Diego Superchargers.

I know it used to be a knight but i guess they figure the lightning bolt seems to be a better fit for them in terms of marketing. Remember the nfl's best jerseys are those powder blues with the lightning bolts. : )

Lightning bolt as in electrical charge.

The Air Force Academy also uses a lightning bolt for their logo, although their mascot is the Falcom. So that's even more nonsensical.

The Chargers played their initial season in Los Angeles when the AFL first started. At that time, the team was owned by Barron Hilton. The joke in LA was that the name referred to persons using their credit cards at his hotels.

I've often wonder similar, because you probably already noticed how the patriots changed theirs, the Bucaneers changed theirs, adn the Broncos changed theirs. It is like alot of teams have become less original in their uniforms and design. Maybe it is to become what they think is more stylish? Maybe it is that the NFL now has one designer for all uniforms?
