First, it is called LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD. It is a fairy tale because it gives human qualities and life to the wolf. Thus, the tale where the wolf can talk cannot be real.

Chow!!

The brothers Grimm did not write them, they just collected and censored and re-wrote.
A fairy tale may well be a love story, there are many examples, but not every love story is a fairy tale, though most of them are fiction.

Roughly speaking you could say that a fairy tale is always including characters/things/events that are not found in reality, like the big, bad, talking wolf who dresses up in the granny's clothes.

There are quite a few stories in the Grimms' collection which are really not fairy tales, but this one certainly is.

When you lookup the word Fairytale in the dictionary you get this: an interesting but highly implausible story; often told as an excuse.

I think it is a fairytale because of so many things.. talking walking wolf, a little girl alone in the woods, a wolf swallowing humans and then he is cut open and they get out safe!!! This may go on and on and on....

Many people later on interpret the classical fairy tale into sexual explanations! Dont judge me on that, but these are some readings I have found about this tale... its not really ME!! LOL

for example... the color red (of the hood) means maturity! Going into puberty!!! It also means that the wolf threatens the girl's virginity!!!!!!!!! He is someone who can be described as lover, seducer or sexual assaulter! Remember! He wanted to EAT her!

The young girl in the dark woods may be interpreted as prostitution!

oh well.. I have seen the play in Kuwait, done by Kuwaiti Actors in Arabic.. I have also seen the play "Into the Woods" in New York which was fantastic, I have also seen some on TV... its a good story ;-)

All fairytales have a "moral of the story".

But when you talk about tales from the Grimm Brothers, there are those who think they are based on some true events that took place.

The "little red riding hood" is actually a metaphore. Just as a lot of aother elements in the story (like the big bad wolf in "sheepclothing").

Little red is actually the messenger of the moral. You still see it nowadays. Red is a color still used by a lot of postal services and the hood and cloak was something messengers used to wear in those days.

Because most fairy tales are named as so because they have morals to them. And a wolf dressing as a granny to con Red Riding Hood has to be nothing other than a Fairy Tale!
Think about it,Sleeping Beauty did not do as she was told and touched the needle,The Princess and the pea again is to do with trust and telling the truth they all have hidden meanings!

The dark side of it is about girls growing up and going through puberty and the wolf represent the lure of men. All Brothers Grimm Fairy tales have a dark side!

What a lot of psychological codswallop!

Fairy tales play upon the imagination of innocent children. ALL children delight in 'heads being chopped off'', wicked witches and little green men. They even believe in Santa Claus.

Little Red Riding Hood is a direct reference to the fact that when out RIDING on a horse a little RED HOOD was worn.

well for a start it's got a cross dressing, talking wolf....

but most fairy tales and myths have some sort of truthful base and were modified to teach.
