I would have to say that there is *some* grain of truth in this form of divination, as I've seen it done and have practiced it myself, both in an experimental and psychic capacity. The accuracy depends on the person himself/herself.
As has already been mentioned, this practice is commonly a form of "dowsing". There are other methods too, including "Radiesthesia".
* "Crystallomancy" uses crystals for divination, where one or more crystals are placed on areas of the map and the diviner passes his/her hand over them, feeling for "hot spots".
* "Pallomancy" is using a pendulum or something resembling a pendulum, such as a crystal or ring tied to a string. Depending on the direction and speed of the oscillation, certain "hot spots" can be found.
" "Dactliomancy" is the same as "Pallomancy", but uses rings on strings.
Scrying is actually a very ancient practice. Quartz is the most commonly used form of crystal for "map scrying". Some uses have been to find missing persons within a given area, lost items, buried treasure, or other "hot spots".

no. scrying and divining are two different things. One may Divine the location of people/things with a crystal and map, but scrying requires a clear reflective surface such as a mirror, cauldron half full of water, etc.
Scry, as in "to scry". The act of seeing people and or events in the past, present, future, and/or at a distance by use of a reflective surface as a focus for the previously mentioned ritual/working.

yes , i can scry with a map and a crystal, but i actually use a divining also known as a dowsing tool, it's a pendulum.
It can also be used to detect water and look for lost objects.
there is nothing mystical or otherworldly about this as water companies have in the past and i still think do) employ dowsers to search for leaks in pipes or locate sources of fresh water. Some companies hire dowsers who work with maps to identify potential sources of oil or mineral...

actually this is true it is called dowsing and people have been doing it accurately since time began. look up water witching its basically the same principles. a dowser using a divining rod can find water buried under the ground and if good enough will tell you how deep underground the water is. the crystal (quartz and NOT lead glass) attunes to the vibrations of the holder. the problem is it requires a lot of practice because the pendulum is very sensitive. it will duplicate your thoughts, so if you think yes then it will give you a yes answer even if that isn't true. so to make it work correctly the dowser has to have a clear mind.
hope that helps

My gran used to do it, back in the 1960's, she's found scores of lost animals and kids! She'd have something that belonged to the animal/person, attach it to her silver chain and dangle it over a map, if the article stayed still she'd try another square of map, if it swung, that's where your animal/kid was! Even the local cops used her to find a kiddie that had been missing for two days - it was in the papers, she was hailed as a heroine for telling the police where to find him. He'd been playing in a disused quarry, slipped and knocked himself out - when he came round, it was dark and the kid was too scared and injured to move, the police found him within the hour of going to my gran

I don't think anyone has ever scientifically proven it, but I know some practitioners do divination that way. Actually scry means something different.
Have you been watching Charmed?

I take it you mean dowsing, or ley lines? I personally have never witnessed it or tried it, so I can't say. A map and a compass would work much better, methinks--ley lines aren't hard to map out.

Have you seen Prof. Calculus with a pendulum? There is something to it. Also there the art of divining, seeking water with a Y shaped stick. But Charmed, though made it seem easy, it is not that easy.

i never thought much about this until i witnessed my friend's sister helping some huntsmen find their dog. They found it exactly where she said. As this was in the Auvergne the dog was very valuable to them and them were delighted.
