In many cases it is needed to find the numbers without looking at the num_pad so touching the 5 digit place on num pad will help to identify the position of other digits, also you can find similar marks on keyboards on J and F buttons. Also it can be useful for Blinds.

just in case you have'nt noticed the new currencies also have a small triange, square or a circle on the front left side, which is a bit elevated, to help the visually impaired to know the denomination.

It's there so the blindcan determine where the numbers are. If you can find the mark then you can make a call, same with keyboards. If you look you can find them on a lot of things, including your remote control.
